Through
the long innings of about four score years the Thyagaraga School
of Music has won several laurels and awards. Strewn along its
path are some very prestigious national awards.
Of
the thousands of students that have walked these corridors
about 90% have reached the top rungs of achievements and fame.
They have succeeded in carving out good careers for themselves
and have hailed the name of their school. Erstwhile students
like KPAC Sulochana and K S George have upheld the exalted
status of this institute by touching the pinnacles of fame.
Some of the more sought after awards won by this institution
are the Jawaharlal Nehru Award in 1956, the Dr.Ambedkar Award
in 1998. and the Dr.Rajendra Prasad Award in 1956. Sree S
R Thyagarajan also won the Yuvakala Sahithya Award and the
Swathi Thirunal Award. It was on Children's Day that Sree
S R Thyagarajan received the honor of being presented with
the Jawaharlal Nehru Award and the Dr. Rajendra Prasad Award
at New Delhi.
Under
the auspices of this institute several other artistically
and aesthetically oriented bodies are functioning in the premises,
making full use of its well-stocked library and its rich collection
of musical artifacts. Several musical concerts are held here
each year. Groups such as the Nrithya Drishya Nataka Troupe
and other Ganamela Troupes perform here. The International
Sree Thyagaraja Music Charitable Trust Award Committee is
also active here.
The
Thyagaraja School of Music & Fine Arts conducts several
